Greater Williamsburg: Holiday Festivities and History

Greater Williamsburg, VA. is ready for the holidays. At Colonial Williamsburg there will be caroling at the Courthouse, walking tours highlighting the decorations, ice skating at the Liberty Ice Pavilion and visits with Father
   The Busch Gardens Christmas Celebration will run on select dates through January 3 and will feature new village entertainment, 15 coasters and rides, a Gingerbread Scavenger Hunt, festival holiday shopping, sweet culinary offerings and a meeting with Santa in his workshop.
   At nearby Yorktown, enjoy the magnificent Yorktown Christmas Tree lights and learn about ancient Norse influences on modern Christmas culture at the Viking Yuletide Celebration at the Watermen’s Museum.
   Visitors will hear account of Christmas and the winter in military encampments during the American Revolution at the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, while the Jamestown Settlement will compare and contrast English Christmas customers of the period with how the season might have been observed during the early stressful years of the Jamestown colony.
