Girlfriend Getaway of the Week — Turks & Caicos

"I just adore a penthouse view!" Eva Gabor sang passionately to her farmer wannabe husband in the popular TV show "Green Acres." Share your own penthouse view with your girlfriends on your next getaway at The Somerset on Grace Bay, where you can afford to live like a Park Avenue princess. Split with your best gal pals, a three-, four- or five-bedroom penthouse is cheaper than booking suites separately. And you’ll get a full kitchen, a private hot tub and plenty of space to spread out while catching up on girl talk. They also have private terraces and semi-private elevators.
Now let's talk spa. The Regent Palms resort next door offers half- and full-day packages, and you’ll be floating on air, as all treatment rooms have heated float beds. Summer rates for the three-bedroom penthouses start at $1,400; suites start at $600. www.somerset.com,www.regenthotels.com/thepalms

It's happened to all us parents – you turn away for one second and your child has taken off. (My scariest moment was when I lost my then two-year-old son when he disappeared in the bottom of a ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese.) And during the summer when you may be traveling or the kids are spending more time outside, these cute bracelets from ID on Me make even more sense. These lightweight bracelets contain identification information for your child, and can also include medical information. But there aren't just for kids. I've wondered before what would happen if my husband or son got injured while out running or biking. Get one for adults and they can wear it on their wrist or strap it right on their shoe. $12 from www.idonme.com

I found a ligament I didn't know I had when I stretched it trying to weigh my suitcase to make sure I hadn't exceeded the 50-pound weight limit. It happened when I tried to use my scale at home. I weighed myself, then picked up my suitcase and stepped on the scales again. This brilliant tactic failed, however, when I realized that now I couldn't see the numbers on the scale and maneuvers generally not seen outside of a game of Twister didn't improve the situation. Efforts to weigh the suitcase on its own failed spectacularly as well. Now there is help, just in time for avoiding all those additional fees the airlines continue to heap on us. Attach the Balanzza Digital Luggage Scale to your luggage to weigh it and determine whether you need to ditch that hardcover copy of Barbara Walter's juicy new book. And you can switch from pounds to kilograms by pushing a button. $24.95 at www.balanzaa.com

I love my adorable pink iPod my husband gave me, despite the presence of way too much Jimi Hendrix music. But it's tough to find a pair of earphones that are comfortable. The AirDrives Interactive Earphones have speakers on the outside of the ear, which makes them not only more comfortable to wear, but also allow you to hear what's going outside, This is perfect to stay safe while running or biking and also ensures you'll hear those boarding calls for your next flight. $79.99 for adults; $99.99 for iPhone and $49.99 for kids. Locations at www.airdrives.com

Chat, Chew and Chocolate

Jill Anderson and Jamie Lau of this alliteratively named social networking group wrote to tell travelgirl about a Girlfriend's Weekend they organized.

"We recently took a group of women up to Flagstaff, Arizona for a weekend of fun, laughter, hiking and horseback riding. This was a well-deserved weekend for all of us. Some of the women had not been away from their spouses ever, while some women left their children at home with their husbands for the first time. We played a game - Two Questions and a Truth - and also a competitive game of Bunko. We had a lot of good food, chocolate and wine. The consensus was that everyone had a nice time and now they want to know when the next trip will be."

I can't travel out of my driveway without taking water with me, so I've enjoyed the convenience of water bottles when I leave home. But I was never too comfortable with the environmental impact of all that plastic. Now we can enjoy bottled water in bottles made from plants rather than crude oil. These bottles from Primo are made from Ingeo™, a plastic made from 100 percent renewable resources. Now available in Kroger stores, Primo will be available at more locations soon. www.primowater.com

Bring up the phrase "eliminates frizzies" and you've got my attention. And when it is also a convenient hair product to throw in a suitcase or a handbag, just point me the way. Our production assistant Jessica took one along with her for a weekend lake trip. After a day in the lake and with no time to wash her hair before going out to dinner, she tried one of these styling hair sheets from Ted Gibson that you just slide over your hair. "It made my hair kind of wet," she said. "But I blew it dry and it was like I had new hair!" $25 for a box of 10 at drugstore.com
