A Penthouse View
If I were ever invited to a fantasy suite, I'd pick this one in the Balcones Del
Atlántico, a new resort in Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic. Opening this fall, this RockResort features 86 two- and three-bedroom villa suites, spa and two pools. Whale watchers will want to book rooms between January 15 and March 25 when thousands of humpback whales will migrate to the Samana Peninsula. Dine at the beachfront restaurant, which will serve gourmet food three meals a day with indoor and outdoor seating areas. The resort is set to open this fall, with the spa to follow this winter. balconesdelatlantico.rockresorts.com
Banish Baggage Fees
Well, not really. But at least get a credit for them when you stay at one of the 4600 InterContinental Hotels Group hotels. Here's how it works – spend two weekend nights at any IHG hotel worldwide between September 1 and December 30 2010, use your Visa card to pay, and get reimbursed for your baggage fees with a free prepaid Visa card, up to $50. Offer good for U.S. residents only and is good for only one bag per stay. Find more details at www.ihg.com/freebag
Pick of the Week
You gotta love the name – that is what I strive to do. Paksmarte is a set of three plastic pockets designed to help you organize your suitcase when you travel. They are reusable and waterproof, so in addition to keeping your clothes in line, you don't have to worry about any liquid spills. No one wants that expensive shampoo to end up on her cashmere sweater. A package of three is $9.95 at www.paksmarte.com
