Something's Cooking in the Islands
The Cook Islands have been on my list of places to go ever since I served as a volunteer during the 1996 Olympics for the head of the I.O.C. from the Cook Islands. And now there is a brand-new Adults-Only resort set to open Valentine's Day, right on the beach. Sanctuary Rarotonga, only for guests 16 and over, is right on the sands of Aroa Lagoon Marine Reserve. The resort is now offering discounted rates on its 48 beachfront suites, a bottle of New Zealand wine and a his-and-her hydrotherapy package. Guests can also enjoy the facilities at Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa. www.SanctuaryRarotonga.com

Get Culinary in Cashiers
Attention foodies – you'll want to head to High Hampton Inn in Cashiers, NC May 19-21 for the Southern Heritage Food Symposium. The event includes three days of tastings, demonstrations and lectures with presenters such as Viking cooking instructor Sheri Castle and John Fleer, former chef of one of my favorite places, Blackberry Farm. High Hampton is a lovely property surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, with a variety of accommodations available. For information visit www.highhamptoninn.com
Pick of the Week
Hey, we all love our dogs, but wouldn't it be great if they were just a little more, well, useful? Well now they can be if they wear the World's Best Dog Collar. It's a retractable bottle opener and dog collar in one, so you never have to worry about how to open your beer. A great gift for just about anyone you know who loves their four-legged friend, and their brew. Gives a whole new meaning to the term party animal, doesn't it? $19.95 at www.bark4beer.com
